Tesla faces a $7.5 billion ultimatum

Tesla may miss out on $7.5bn in EV charger subsidies from the Biden administration if it doesn’t open up its EV charging network to competitors, according to Reuters. The Department of Transportation will reportedly introduce a new requirement next week that will encourage Tesla to add the EV charging stations used by rival electric-vehicle makers. Tesla’s SuperCharger network has more EV charging stations than any other company in the US, but they can only be used by Tesla cars. While CEO Elon Musk has spoken about opening up the network to competitors, the company has yet to move publicly. Read more here
