The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has announced that $12.6 million will be distributed to 10 applicants for the development of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The grants will be used to fund 348 new Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) ports at 87 locations throughout the state. The initiative aims to expand access to EV charging stations and support Illinois’ goal of achieving 100% clean energy by 2050. The funding will be used to install DCFC stations at publicly-accessible places such as shopping centers and hotels in priority areas, including Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, Will, Madison, Monroe, St. Clair, Champaign, DeKalb, LaSalle, McLean, Peoria, Sangamon, and Winnebago counties. The project is part of Illinois’ efforts to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Read more here
