Some electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid car owners in parts of New England are paying more for EV charging than they would for gasoline, as power rates in the region have risen by an average of 30% since last summer. This has led to some drivers opting to recharge their vehicles at work or invest in solar panels to reduce EV charging costs. Higher EV prices coupled with the volatile fuel prices could affect the decision-making process of potential buyers, who may choose a combustion-engine vehicle instead. The increased EV charging prices are due to New England’s dependence on fossil fuels, with natural gas prices tripled since Russia invaded Ukraine a year ago.
