Case Study: EV Charging Infrastructure for The City of San Ramon, CA

Case:  EV Charging Infrastructure for The City of San Ramon, CA

Scenario

The City of San Ramon transportation department was interested in scaling their Electric Vehicle Charging infrastructure due to the purchase of several more Electric vehicles for Police Department. They had 2 charging stations on one 40A circuit but were not happy with uptime rate of their existing charging stations and with the high cost.

Solution

Cyber Switching consulted to install CSE1 OCPP-compliant 48A Dual Charging Stations connected to AmpUp network. This AmpUp integration allows the officers at the Police Department to track their energy charging status remotely and have access to real-time analytics of the electric vehicle consumption over time. Not to mention that the EV fleet charging times can be established in the app to match ideal charging times for officers that match their schedules or that optimize energy savings.

The City of San Ramon installed the charging stations using their existing electrical service, by downgrading the EV charging station to lower current. This capability of Cyber Switching allows the customer to save hundreds or thousands of dollars on electrical infrastructure upgrades, generally required to install EV charging stations.

Results

Moreover, thanks to the 96.98 % reliability of the CSE1 EV charger, the Police Department is now ready to operate with an EV fleet that is constantly charged with a high uptime rate and lower energy costs. This led them to save more than two times on EV Charging stations and on the yearly fees.
